The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation is awarding $45,336 in capital funds to “Small and Mighty” nonprofit organizations with annual operating expenses of $300,000 or less. Grants will enhance four programs located in Sarasota or DeSoto County:
- Links to Success– $20,000 for technology and furnishings to support a growing team focused on increasing post-secondary attainment and parental involvement in education in DeSoto County. This project is vital for DeSoto County, where educational and economic challenges severely limit students’ opportunities.
- FUNducation– $13,026 for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) tools boosting the organization’s residency program with elementary-aged students, currently at Emma E. Booker Elementary School. The organization gives children—especially those who are underrepresented in STEAM fields—an opportunity to explore with interactive instruction and hands-on learning.
- SPAACES Foundation– $7,310 to improve shared spaces at low-cost art studios for professional artists in Sarasota. In addition to providing affordable space, the nonprofit develops partnerships between artists and local nonprofits to increase understanding of social issues using art as a medium for expression.
- Sarasota Technology Users Group– $5,000 to purchase parts to refurbish devices provided to low-income adults and young people. The organization partners with local schools and nonprofit organizations to help individuals access laptops and other devices necessary for schoolwork, employment, emergency information, and to be informed and engaged citizens.
“These Small and Mighty grants provide an insight into our focus on increasing opportunity for all members of our community. Artists, aspiring students, and job-seekers all deserve access to lively spaces and technology,” said Susie Bowie, President/CEO of the Selby Foundation.
“We are always inspired to see what determined and innovative people make possible with groups of like-minded contributors. We share our investments with the hope that donors in our region will also participate in the success of these small organizations with their personal philanthropy.”
The Selby Foundation invests in students and nonprofit organizations in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties with high-value scholarships, capital supports, and training that builds resilience.
