The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation is awarding more grants to support “Small and Mighty” nonprofits, charitable organizations with budgets of $300,000 or less that achieve important results in our community.
The newest round of recipients include:
- DeSoto Cares – $18,310 for technology, a storage unit, and washer/dryer to support services for unhoused and vulnerable individuals in DeSoto County
- Educational Consultants Consortium – $20,000 for fencing and a playground at a youth center supporting after school and summer learning
- Flourishing – 3,595 for laptops to support girls in an impactful afterschool program including homework assistance, skill building, and career exploration
- Oyster River Ecology – $15,000 to match a gift from Manatee Matches Giving Circle of Manatee Community Foundation, investing in a truck for oyster transport and program work focused on the Manatee River and other locations
“Small organizations can be closest to the people impacting change in their communities,” said Susie Bowie, Selby Foundation President and CEO. “Supporting them with the hard-to-fund equipment and tools they need boosts their capability to serve in important ways.”
Since 2021, Small and Mighty grants have enhanced the Selby Foundation’s long-standing capital commitments to nonprofits by giving new, all-volunteer, and small-staffed organizations an opportunity to access funds. Applications are available each year in February, June, and October.
The Selby Foundation is the legacy of Bill and Marie Selby, two caring people who dedicated their resources to increasing opportunity for others through educational awards for students and through grants to nonprofits in our region. The Foundation invests in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties.
