Gratitude & Grants During a Hard Time

Bidding farewell to weeks of devastating storms, we move into the season of giving thanks, even as recovery has just begun.

One participant in a recent Selby Foundation convening expressed a simple but powerful sentiment we share. She said, “I am grateful for life.”

It is remarkable to know people who continue their commitments to nonprofit organizations and causes–as staff, board members, volunteers, or donors–while they experience their own personal losses.

To help human service organizations focus on what they do best, the Selby Foundation responded quickly with what we do best–awarding $499,424 in grants to support the capital needs of nonprofits impacted by Hurricane Milton.

These grants will help nonprofits bounce back when damages to infrastructure halted or compromised services provided to vulnerable children, adults, and families. In some cases, buildings, fixtures, or equipment required replacement for optimal administration of essential programs. Funds are supporting needs when insurance and FEMA are either unavailable or present barriers to quickly continue a high level of service.

Grants range from $1,650 to $50,000 to aid organizations providing programs for single mothers, individuals experiencing homelessness, families in need of critical home repairs, adults and children with disabilities or mental illness, and children enrolled in high quality youth programs. Find our list of grantees here.

We are grateful for the resilience of nonprofit organizations and the people who make their work possible.

Our team also gives thanks for partnerships with other foundations, whether their focus is immediate relief, long-term recovery, needs of individuals, or program/operating support for nonprofit organizations. The network of connections and shared information makes our region unique.

We are able to do more leveraging our strengths.
