Scholarship Intern Prepares New College Resource Guide

In January 2025, the Selby Foundation hired a part-time Scholarship Intern to support scholarship selection and to design a new College Resource Guide for Selby Scholars. Bedline Demetrius, a 2020 Selby Scholar Alumnus, was selected for the position and used her time to enhance our work and easy-access to resources for students.

“It was a full circle moment being a Selby Scholar intern,” said Bedline. “I got to witness a variety of behind the scenes things within the Selby organization. I’ve worked on projects that were detail oriented and data driven.”

From ensuring student applications were complete and ready for review to supporting the Selby Scholar “Lunch with a Purpose” learning events, Bedline took on a variety of tasks. “I paired students with the best mentor for their particular career interest so they could have an opportunity to ask questions, and gain more insight about their field of choice.”

Using her fresh experience as a college student, Bedline created a college resource guide. Guided by research to inform college students about the different resources available to them on and off campus, her work will help to make their college experience as successful as possible.

“I enjoyed my time, and learned a lot on the way. The college resource guide and the selection process was the most comprehensive thing I’ve done, and it took time and lots of research. As my time comes to an end, I am amazed about the amount of information that goes into going to college, the intricate details, and all the things that make college more attainable. My hope is that Selby Scholars gain some insight and feel empowered to make the most out of their college experience.”
