The Selby Foundation is awarding $48,472 in capital grants to small local nonprofits that are helping people achieve their potential. Five “Small and Mighty” grants will provide capital funds ultimately impacting high school students working toward post-secondary education, individuals in recovery, girls, domestic violence survivors, and individuals and families living with food insecurity.
Funded organizations in the summer cycle include:
- Booker Promise Foundation- $8,445 to customize technology that will track program outcomes of high school students engaged in success-building programs.
- Englewood Recovery Oasis- $20,000 for parking lot improvements at the organization’s new headquarters for people in recovery.
- Girls on the Run of Southwest Florida- $5,796 for technology supporting a results-based empowerment and health program for girls.
- Kim’s Krew- $9,140 for technology and equipment to increase capacity for a Manatee-based food program for families who cannot leave their home to access pantries.
- Queens of Domestic Violence Awareness- $5,091 for a smartboard and technology needed for programming.
Charitable organizations with small budgets and mighty impact can apply for capital grants from the Selby Foundation three times each year, receiving funds outside of the more competitive grant cycles for larger nonprofits.
The Selby Foundation, now in its 70th year, is the legacy of Bill and Marie Selby, two people who cared deeply about the region and in helping others gain access to opportunity.
