For five years, the Selby Foundation has intentionally invested in organizations with small operating budgets and considerable impact.
We have awarded nearly 70 grants to 58 organizations in the “Small and Mighty” (SAM) process, infusing $670,000 into the community through nonprofits with annual expenses of $300,000 or less.
- SAM grant recipients are focused on measured growth and are working toward increasing annual community support to sustain their work.
- Their boards speak with a unified voice about the goals for the organization and strategies to get there.
- Actively building meaningful connections, these organizations are partnering with other nonprofits and community groups to increase their impact beyond what they could achieve alone.
- They value continuous learning, especially from the communities they serve.
- Finally, they support people who may find it challenging to access services, health care, the arts, or civic participation without them.
The Small and Mighty organizations we have supported in the past continue to strengthen their reach in meaningful ways. Some now qualify for Traditional Grants, having grown their programs significantly. See the recent recipients.
Photo: Links to Success no longer qualifies for the “Small and Mighty” grant because its budget has increased with foundation and community support. Over the years, the organization’s impact has grown to reach beyond students pursuing post-secondary education to the entire community in DeSoto County and beyond.
