Speaking on behalf of your cause

In our 70th year, the Selby Foundation continues to lean into the values that were important to Bill and Marie Selby. Social responsibility is one of those values, and it shows up in spaces outside of the dollars awarded in grants and scholarships.

In June, we enjoyed the opportunity to work together with the Bishop Parker Foundation, Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Gulf Coast Community Foundation, and The Patterson Foundation to gather nonprofit CEOs and board members for two advocacy trainings led by the Florida Nonprofit Alliance.

We appreciate all of the leaders who joined us with the eagerness to develop tools and strategies to effectively amplify their work. Speaking on behalf of nonprofits and the people they serve has always been important. Perhaps this moment brings even more compelling reasons to advocate at the level right for each organization.

We thank our colleagues at local foundations for their spirit of partnership. In many visible and invisible ways, foundations share information, collaborate on grants, and support each other in the care of our community.

When the Selby Foundation was established in 1955, who could have imagined the philanthropic resources our region would one day have? It’s a testament to the creative and powerful ways people use their wealth, knowledge, experience, and voice to invest in others.

We remain grateful to be a fixture of this work and for the part each person and institution plays in the health of our community.
