Hurricane Milton Capital Grants for Human Service Organizations

With three major hurricanes touching our region in recent weeks–Hurricane Debby, Hurricane Helene, and now Hurricane Milton–the staff and board of the Selby Foundation are keeping our nonprofit partners, Selby Scholars, and community in our hearts.

LIMITED CAPITAL FUNDS FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

The Selby Foundation has made funds available to support human service organizations serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties with capital needs resulting from Hurricane Milton. These funds are intended to help with needs critical to continuing your services when FEMA or property insurance do not offer reasonable options. Hurricane-related funds will not impact your organization’s ability to apply for a Traditional or Small and Mighty grant, and you can request funds even if you were recently awarded funds through our other cycles.

If your human service-focused nonprofit has a capital need as a result of Hurricane Milton, we encourage you to reach out to Elizabeth Power at EPower@SelbyFdn.org.

HOW TO HELP OTHERS

Giving financially rather than donating items is usually the best way to help in a disaster, unless organizations have requested specific items needed by people they are serving and they have a way to distribute them. Want to give funds to help? As a private foundation, we do not raise funds, but our local community foundation and United Way partners are supporting both individual needs and nonprofit needs through several funds where charitable contributions can make a difference.

We recommend that givers work with trusted organizations that already know the needs of the communities they serve.

As we work through this time, we hope you are taking good care of yourself.
