Who opened the door for you?

No one gets where they are today alone. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, what you know. Someone–and often many people–have helped you along the way. They gave you a chance, listened to your idea, connected you to someone who hired you, picked you when they could have chosen someone else.

As the Selby Foundation moves deeper into its 70th year, we asked our current Selby Scholars to tell us about an organization in our community that helped them become who they are today.

A team of community leaders is selecting seven essays written by students, and each of the organizations they wrote about will receive a $5,000 grant, presented by the student. Over the next few months, we will share these with you.

You will smile when you read the powerful stories–but you will not be surprised. The reminder that positive things happen one person, one relationship at a time, is one that feels especially important today.

What nonprofit or person opened a door for you? Send them a note and let them know. While you’re at it, how about opening a door for someone else?

Change their world.
