Each year before Scholarship “season” begins, the Selby Foundation dedicates many hours to visiting youth-serving nonprofit organizations, community events, and high school college and career fairs.
Led by Senior Scholarships Manager Kiarra Womack, the presentations share valuable information about financial aid and scholarships in general, in addition to what it means to become a Selby Scholar. One key message: you can go to college, and you deserve the opportunity to attend college–whether it is a degree-seeking program or vocational/technical education after high school.
We find that nearly all Selby Scholars have been supported by at least one local youth-serving organization as they develop leadership and skills for their continued success in life. This year, the following organizations welcomed the Selby Foundation for presentations:
- Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation of Manasota, Inc.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and Desoto Counties
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
- Girls Inc. Sarasota
- Greatness Beyond Measure
- Healthy Teens of Manatee and Sarasota County
- Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
- Links2Success
- Take Stock in Children Manatee
- Take Stock in Children Sarasota
- Teen Court of Sarasota
- Truly Valued, Inc.
- UnidosNow
- Sarasota Housing Authority – Youth Thrive
